Cot bumper – is it worth having?
Each young parent who expects the birth of their baby prepares a layette to facilitate everyday functioning in the new reality. In addition to the layette, a new family member will find rooms or a corner in the parents’ bedroom. It is in it that the child is supposed to feel good and safe. An indispensable element of such a space is a baby cot, in which the little one will spend a lot of time. It takes more than 300 days for an infant to sleep in the first year of life. When choosing bedding for a cot, it is also worth considering the purchase of a cot bumper. The rung protector guarantees the child a safe sleep. It is also often a complement to the bedding set and becomes a decoration of the cot and children’s room. There are 2 types of cot bumpers on the market: a braid tied with rungs and a bumper.
Rung protector
This type of protector is usually a set with bedding. It is sewn from the same material and decorated with a motif, which can also be seen on a pillow or quilt. Often, elements tied to the rungs form charming bows. The protector perfectly decorates the baby cot. In addition to aesthetic values, it has a very important protective function. Babies grow quickly. They begin to be more and more mobile, they roll over from side to side, also at night, so they can get hurt against the rungs, put a handle or leg in them. It is important to ensure their safety by covering the rungs with a soft fabric filled with a soft insert. When buying a bumper, it is worth paying attention to the quality of the fabric from which it was sewn. The baby will touch it with his mouth, among other things, so natural, breathable materials are definitely the best choice.
Braid protector
The second type of protector, which is braided like a braid, also performs a protective function. It protects the baby very well during sleep and rest, separating it from the rungs of the cot. However, this bumper protects not only in a baby cot. It plays the same role in the parents’ bed, when mom and dad are afraid that they will crush the child or the child’s bed to which the preschooler is being transferred. A braid can provide protection against a wall, a metal railing or simply wrap you up for sleep. That’s not all, the braid-protector has other functions:
- perfect for an afternoon nap on the carpet,
- protects the baby from falling while learning to sit down,
- you can take it on vacation and use it as a protection for your child while sleeping or playing on the beach,
- works well in various, creative games of preschoolers: a snake, a train, a defensive wall of the castle,
- wonderfully decorates the room of a child of any age.
When buying this protector, it is worth paying attention to the material from which it is made. The toddler’s comfort depends on it, the child’s skin is delicate and sensitive, which is why natural fabrics are the only right choice.
Safety first of all
We protect our children while riding a bike – putting on a helmet. While in the sun – covering the head and lubricating with sunscreen, while staying in the pool – putting inflatable protectors on the handles, during a meal – putting on a bib and sitting in a safe chair for this purpose, walking – fastening dogs in a stroller. Safety should also be ensured during sleep in the crib. Let’s create comfortable conditions for this by minimizing the risk of impact or blocking the leg. The cot protector performs its protective function perfectly.
